To be in at the start of a new business is an exciting experience which develops a close camaraderie among the people involved, regardless of the position.

So take some time to do a staff inventory. First of all look at the total staff. Do you really need the number you have? How much extra business could you handle without taking on more staff? What are the staff bottlenecks where trouble first shows up when you are heavily loaded? Can you rearrange duties to increase capacity at this point? Could you train more of your staff to help out at the bottle-neck? Now do an inventory on each individual, trying to forget how long he or she has been with you and the escapades you have shared.
